May 1st, 2015, or “Fradiani Friday”, marked the day of Guilford’s own Idol hopeful, Nick Fradiani, and his much anticipated return to his hometown. The town was alight with energy as people from all over the state of Connecticut gathered downtown on our Green to celebrate the homecoming. The day started with Fradiani’s performance at Guilford High School, followed by a parade down Whitfield Street, and ultimately a concert on the Green. The streets were lined with fans anxious to catch a glimpse of Fradiani as he made his way through the town. One fan, Janette from Madison, said she had been watching the show since its inception and was thrilled to see someone local make it to the top four.
Thousands of onlookers flanked Whitfield Street to see the parade, which began at four o’clock, and then the concert that was set to start at around 4:30. Fradiani, along with his father and band, Beach Avenue, sang some original songs as well as songs which Fradiani covered on Idol. The crowd was enthusiastic and one could feel the massive amount of support for Fradiani during his performance.
GCTV was there to capture the day’s events with many local volunteers who worked tirelessly to gather footage and interviews.
The finale of American Idol was hosted in a two show platform that took place this past Tuesday and Wednesday. Fradiani was declared the winner on Wednesday, May 13th with much excitement and fanfare from his hometown.
The weekend broadcast schedule starts tonight at midnight and changes again at 12:01am on Sunday. We have some great new programs including Quiz Bowl 5, new services from Bethel and First Baptist Church and the PZC hearing on the Plan of Conservation and Development.

We just finished putting together the schedule for the weekend, which starts at midnight tonight and changes again on Sunday. Look for a new Spotlight on Guilford featuring the Guilford Land Conservation Trust on the Friday / Saturday schedule and tune into the Sunday / Monday / Tuesday schedule for Nick Fradiani in Concert on the Guilford Green! Filmed and edited by Guilford volunteer producers.
Thanks to the Town of Guilford, our volunteer was given access to the risers so the camera could get above the crowds and get a clear view of the stage. But look at the crowd shots….you just might see someone you know cheering on our Idol!
Lots of great new programming coming to the GCTV broadcast schedule starting tonight at midnight.
The schedule kicks off with an interview with American Idol hopeful, Nick Fradiani who was interviewed by local producer, Tony Fappiano, on Fradiani Friday. Look for more programming from this event later this week as we have fan footage, the parade and of course, the CONCERT!
Also airing this cycle is Apple PI Robotics at the World Championships, news from VNA and GHS CARE along with a new BOE meeting. And check out a great video on the Monuments of Rome.
GCTV has been working closely with the Town to provide local coverage of tomorrow’s American Idol event as we welcome home Nick Fradiani!
GCTV is programming by and for the Guilford Community and we have several volunteer community producers covering the parade and concert along with some of our student interns covering the Fradiani fans! Volunteers, both students and adults, will have a roll in editing the footage we collect in preparation for local broadcast on our channels and website.
We hope to see you there tomorrow, but know that you will be able to see the local coverage of this event on GCTV soon!
